Outrageous Musicians

On Friday we had a String group come and play classical music to our school. It was great. They made up stories and did the sound effects using their instruments and different coins.

Penny worked with us at Reading time to make our own sounds on some string instruments. We wrote down the names of the sounds to make some poems.

We cut and pasted some words from our music and made some poetry.
Here are the poems from our new people to Room 2. We are so excited to have our full class next term. When we have permission from the parents of our new children we will have some pictures of our full class.

Butterfly Release

Bye Butterfly

I named the butterfly Fareyana. It took a long time for the beautiful butterfly to come. Mrs Walker put it outside for it to fly and I love the butterfly. It ate a lot of swan plant, munch, munch.

Me and My Shadow

We have had plenty of sunny days to trace around our shadows. We traced around them at different times of the day . We noticed that our shadows moved. For home learning some people made a sundial. Sundials work in the same way as our shadows. We traced around our feet so we always stood in the same place. Some of us were very scientific and wrote the time when we recorded our shadow. One day there was no sun so we couldn't trace our shadow, some people even recorded the weather conditions in their experiment.

Bubbles

We blew some bubbles and wrote some stories about them.  We made some bubble art to go with our poem on Friday.

Ginny and Small Ball Skills in the Hall

We had Ginny in the hall this morning for some small ball skills. We will have some follow up homework so we are really good next time we have her. Some of the drills were tricky but the challenge was fun.

We played a game called opposites, you had to do the opposite of what Ginny said. It was tricky and funny to watch.

Roadworks at School

We had roadworks outside of our school this week. We went out to watch them and wrote these stories.

Video to come.

Roadworks
The truck shot tarseal. The truck looked like it had flat tires. The truck was like a crane. The tarseal looked like chocolate. The truck was really dirty. The truck was cool.

Space Art

We have made some beautiful pictures of space to hang in our classroom. We made them like a spray-paint artist would by colouring our planets and making some planet covers to protect them. Spray-paint artists use plates or potlids. We watched them on youtube.

Then we used sponges to put black all over our pictures. It was messy and our room was smelly.

The last step  was to peel off the covers we made and throw them away. You can see our beautiful planets that were protected underneath.

Now the fun part, we flicked white paint all over the room and some of it landed on our space pitcures. Mrs Walker has a star covered jacket to wear on duty.

You can see all of our finished pictures on our Art Gallery page. See the page menu along the top of our blog or just click here.

Seed Pods

We have been working on lots of observational drawings of lots of natural objects. We are using these to focus our talking and thinking about these objects. We are trying to improve our observation skills and use lots of interesting describing language. We write about our observations after we have worked with each natural object. These are some photos of us looking at seed pods from the harakeke (flax) plants outside our classroom. Ryan noticed a dried pod on the ground one day at fitness, we wondered what it was and where it had come from. When we looked up we saw the other pods, they are the flowers of the flax. We thought we could learn a lot from looking at it. We thought the lines on the pods were very beautiful.

Some of our observations are below.

Swimming

Swimming lessons have been lots of fun. Here are some pictures of us at our swimming lessons. Thank you so much to all of the parents who have joined us at the pool and helped us keep track of most of our bits and pieces. Swimming lessons this Friday have had to be changed; there is no swimming this week. Our last session for Term 1 will be next Thursday the 21st March.
